Ceremonial Grade Yame Gyokuro Matcha

Ceremonial Grade Yame Gyokuro Matcha is one of Japan’s rarest and most prestigious green teas, presented in powdered form. This exceptional tea is made by finely grinding 100% Yame Dentou Hon Gyokuro, Japan’s highest-ranked shaded tea, produced in extremely limited quantities and reserved for the most refined tea experiences.

This ceremonial-grade gyokuro powder is crafted exclusively from tea leaves grown in Yame, Fukuoka, under strict, government-recognized standards. Only the softest new buds are used, hand-picked at peak freshness. Cultivation follows traditional shelf-shaded methods that avoid direct covering of the tea bushes. Plants are left untrimmed and grown in their natural posture, while shading is achieved solely with natural straw and reeds, never chemical fibers.

These uncompromising methods result in tea exceptionally rich in amino acids and theanine, producing profound umami, mellow sweetness, and virtually no bitterness. The powder displays a vivid emerald-green color with a subtle glossy sheen and releases a refined “Ooika” aroma, a distinctive nori-like fragrance unique to true gyokuro.

“Yame Dentou Hon Gyokuro,” or Traditional Yame Gyokuro, is a protected designation awarded only to teas that meet rigorous cultivation and production requirements. This tea has been officially recognized with Japan’s Geographical Indication (GI) certification, confirming its authenticity, origin, and traditional craftsmanship.

Yame gyokuro is widely regarded as Japan’s finest due to both natural conditions and human expertise. Grown in the mountainous regions of Yame City, the tea benefits from cool temperatures, abundant rainfall, and frequent morning mist. More than 200 dedicated tea artisans continue to refine their skills across generations, contributing to Yame’s consistent top rankings in Japan’s national tea competitions.

Unlike standard matcha, this product is made by grinding entire gyokuro leaves into a fine powder. This rare format allows the drinker to experience gyokuro’s deep umami in a new way, whether enjoyed simply with water or incorporated into refined culinary creations. Preparing the tea at lower temperatures draws out natural sweetness and amino acids while suppressing bitterness and caffeine.

Each order is presented in a traditional Japanese paulownia wood box, prized for its ability to protect tea from humidity and pests. After use, the box may be repurposed as an elegant storage container.

This tea contains no sugar, additives, coloring, fragrance, or salt. It may be enjoyed purely with water, with milk, or used freely in high-end culinary applications. Often referred to as “The Drop of Heaven,” this legendary tea is now available in its purest powdered form.
