Houjicha (Roasted green tea Leaves)

"Hojicha" is a traditional Japanese green tea variety known for its distinctive flavor and aroma. Here are some details about hojicha:

1. Production Method:

✅ Hojicha is made by roasting tea leaves at high temperatures. Typically, green tea leaves (especially sencha or gyokuro) are used, and they may be steamed before roasting. After steaming, the leaves are roasted in an oven, causing them to turn brown and develop the unique flavor and aroma associated with hojicha. The degree of roasting can vary, leading to variations in the flavor and color of hojicha.

2. Aroma and Flavor:

✅ Hojicha has a unique aroma resulting from the roasting process. It often carries the scent of roasted rice or toasted bread. The flavor is sweet and mellow, occasionally featuring nutty notes. The extent of roasting impacts the aroma and flavor profiles.

3. Health Benefits:

Like regular green tea, hojicha contains beneficial compounds such as antioxidants and catechins. These components are believed to contribute to antioxidant effects and improved metabolism. Additionally, hojicha has a lower caffeine content, making it suitable for those looking to limit their caffeine intake.

4. Enjoying Hojicha:

✅ Hojicha is commonly enjoyed as a tea in Japan. It is typically brewed with hot water, but it's also popular served cold or as a hojicha latte. Hojicha pairs well with traditional Japanese sweets and cuisine, and it is used in traditional Japanese tea ceremonies and rituals.

Hojicha's distinctive flavor and cultural significance have made it a beloved tea both in Japan and internationally.

Hojicha is a special tea deeply ingrained in Japan's tea culture. Roasted hojicha is known for its unique aroma and gentle flavor, offering a smooth and sweet taste. It holds a special place in the hearts of those interested in Japanese traditions and culture, and its soothing flavor has earned it recognition as a tea suitable for relaxation and stress relief. It's a favorite among health-conscious individuals, those looking to reduce caffeine intake, and enthusiasts of Japanese cuisine and sweets. Our hojicha powder is crafted from green tea grown in Yame, Kyushu, and is available in a convenient powdered form, making it easy to prepare with just hot water. Additionally, it can be used in cooking and baking for added versatility.

Generally, hojicha is best enjoyed with water at around 80-90°C (176-194°F). Place a spoonful of hojicha powder into your cup. Pour hot water into the cup or teapot with the hojicha powder. Hojicha is delightful on its own, but feel free to add sugar or milk to your liking. Adjust to suit your taste. In Japan, it's often enjoyed alongside traditional Japanese sweets. Additionally, hojicha can be enjoyed as a cold beverage, and you can explore variations like hojicha lattes.

[About us (Mukoh Matcha)]

Mukoh Matcha" prides itself on delivering high-quality green tea and matcha sourced exclusively from Fukuoka, Japan’s lush, water-rich Yame region, where tea production has been passed down through generations of expert farmers over the past 600 years.

The product of “Mukou Matcha” is based on the concept of “something that you and your loved ones can consume”. Therefore, Mukoh Matcha deals with green tea, matcha, and food that we are familiar with, having a clear understanding of where, by whom, and how the products are made.

The “Dreaming Matcha Series” is 100% produced in Yame, a rare region in Fukuoka that has been passed down through generations of tea farmers. Mukoh Matcha is a direct trade with the tea farmers.

The “Sweet Matcha Series” is made by a mom who makes Matcha latte or sweets with “Sweet Matcha” for her children and which made from pure matcha and granulated sugar without any artificial sweeteners, preservatives, or dextrin.

It is a sweetened matcha with a moderate sweetness. You can drink it by adding it to soy milk or milk, or use it as an ingredient in chiffon cakes, pancakes, muffins, Bavarian cream, panna cotta, donuts, mousse, smoothies, tiramisu, cookies, yokan (sweet red bean jelly), crepes, cakes and more.

The components of matcha and green tea such as “Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)” and “Caffeine” are easily extracted at high temperatures above 80 degrees Celsius. “Theanine (amino acid)” and “Epigallocatechin (EGC)” are easily extracted at low temperatures.

You can enjoy these components by drinking them hot or cold.
