What Is Black Cocoa Powder?
Black cocoa powder is a deeply dark cocoa powder specialized for coloring purposes. By intensifying the alkalization process during production, the cocoa becomes jet black and is sometimes referred to as a “colored cocoa powder” to distinguish it from standard cocoa powders.
Because it is optimized for coloring, its cocoa aroma and flavor are milder compared to standard cocoa powder. For recipes where both strong color and rich cocoa flavor are desired, it is recommended to use black cocoa powder together with regular cocoa powder.

Basic Usage
Black cocoa powder is convenient when you want to color baked goods or bread a deep black. It is commonly used in products such as black cocoa biscuits and is especially suitable for seasonal baking, including Halloween-themed sweets and breads.
Simply mix it with the flour and other dry ingredients. For cake flour, sift well together before use.
As a guideline, add approximately 4–5% black cocoa powder relative to the total flour weight.
