Matcha - A Tea Healthier Than Green Tea

Matcha and regular green tea are both found in China in the Camellia Sinensis plant. Matcha is however grown differently than regular green tea because the tea leaves are shielded and protected from the sun rays for about a month before the process of harvesting begins. This results in an increase in the number of chlorophyll levels which turn the leaves more green and thus they leave a darker shade and this results in an increase in the number of amino acids.

After this process, the leaves are removed and then ground into a fine powder. This is the reason Matcha has a large amount of caffeine and antioxidants than Green tea because the whole tea leaf is used in this process. However, in green tea, a part of the leaf is used.

In a regular cup of Green tea, there is 35 mg of caffeine however in Matcha one cup consists of about 290 mg of caffeine. This is the reason people do not drink full cup of Matcha green tea because of its high amount of caffeine. 2-5 ounces of Matcha is used commonly.

Matcha has a very bitter taste it is often served with sweetened milk. Nowadays, Matcha is commonly available in tea spots and cafes.
